She’s more effective than the Lannisters, and has the makings of a sympathetic figure as she’s kind to Sansa and Joffrey, the abandoned children so different from each other. Dormer adds: “I really loved Margaery getting close to Sansa. Sophie [Turner] and I have had so much fun together. I love that big sister dynamic—Sophie and I are pretty much agreed that if the circumstances were different, Sansa and Margaery would actually be good friends” (Wieselman).

Certainly, Margaery is the anti–Sansa or possibly the future Sansa, one who’s a player not a pawn, one who can spar with Queen Cersei and make choices for herself. All her moves seem carefully orchestrated down to the last word, and this makes her resemble the oh-so-careful Littlefinger or Varys, a schemer cleverly playing the game.
